What subjects are included in MYP Individuals & Societies?
MYP I&S is an interdisciplinary Group 3 subject that typically integrates history, geography, and economics, and may include elements of psychology, sociology, and civics depending on the school. The subject is taught through global contexts and key/related concepts rather than as separate disciplines — though many schools focus on one strand per year.
How are the four criteria assessed in MYP I&S?
Criterion A (Knowing) is assessed through factual recall and conceptual understanding. Criterion B (Investigating) is typically assessed through a research task or project. Criterion C (Communicating) covers essay, report, and presentation quality. Criterion D (Thinking Critically) is assessed through analysis and evaluation of multiple perspectives. Many tasks assess 2–3 criteria simultaneously.
What is the MYP eAssessment for I&S?
The MYP 5 eAssessment for I&S is an on-screen exam with a structured written response format. It presents sources (texts, maps, data) on a global issue and asks students to demonstrate knowledge, source evaluation, and critical analysis. Our MYP 5 tutors run dedicated eAssessment preparation sessions using practice papers.
How important are ATL skills in MYP I&S?
Research skills are assessed directly in Criterion B — which covers source selection, evaluation, and citation. Students who can identify source bias, distinguish primary from secondary sources, and apply consistent citation format score significantly higher on B. Our tutors teach these skills practically through real research tasks.
Can IBZENITH help with specific history or geography topics?
Yes — we support all commonly taught MYP I&S strands. Common topics include World War I and II, Cold War, civil rights, colonialism, climate change geography, development economics, and political systems. Our tutors adapt sessions to your school’s specific curriculum and assessment tasks.
How does MYP I&S connect to IBDP Group 3 subjects?
Strong MYP I&S students are well-prepared for DP History, Geography, Economics, Business Management, Global Politics, and Psychology. The key concepts (change, causality, power, globalisation) and inquiry skills (research, critical thinking, source evaluation) transfer directly to DP Group 3 demands.
